Ceist:254 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason Operation Freeflow has been confined to the Dublin area and the reason this operation was not introduced in other cities throughout the country. [21915/97]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 252 and 254 together.
Operation freeflow, a programme of interim measures to relieve traffic congestion pending full implementation of the DTI strategy, is co-ordinated on an ongoing basis by the Dublin Transportation Office which has a specific remit for the Dublin region.
It is open to other major urban authorities to address land use and transportation requirements on a systematic basis similar to the Dublin Transportation Initiative, and I understand a number of these authorities is currently taking steps in this direction.
