Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

253 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the amount of money it would cost to build 3,000 local authority homes in Dublin in order to alleviate the housing shortage. [21844/97]

The average cost of providing a three bedroomed local authority house in the Dublin area is currently about £70,000. The cost of providing 3,000 local authority houses would, on this basis, be in the region of £210 million. However, the actual cost of a programme of 3,000 houses would depend on land acquisition costs, tender prices, etc. at the time.
