Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Correspondence.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

311 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will have arrangements made to have the issues raised in correspondence (details supplied) investigated. [22113/97]

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

312 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a request from the Coalition of Communities Against Drugs to meet them to discuss, inter alia, relations with the Garda Síochána at Fitzgibbon Street station; and if he will meet this group in the immediate future. [22119/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 311 and 312 together.

I have received the request referred to by the Deputies. The issues raised in the correspondence I have received are matters which are proper to be dealt with either directly with the commissioner of the Garda Síochána or, alternatively, under the Garda Síochána Complaints Act, 1986. I am satisfied that it would not be appropriate for me to deal with those issues directly and, accordingly, I am not in a position to agree to a meeting. I am so informing the group concerned today.
