Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Deirdre Clune

Ceist:

342 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will invite proposals for the building of a 50 metre swimming pool; if persons from all parts of the country can put forward proposals; whether the proposed pool will be a stand alone building or part of a complex; the Government funding, if any, which will be made available in this regard; and the time scale for completion. [21976/97]

The Government, in line with the commitment given in its joint programme, An Action Plan for the Millennium, to invite proposals for a national 50 metre swimming pool, recently decided to initiate a procedure to invite proposals. I am finalising the details of that procedure and I hope to be in a poistion, shortly, to place an advertisement in the national newspapers.

On the question of location, no particular location will be specified; accordingly, proposals from all parts of the country will be considered, provided they meet the other requirements which, as stated, I am in the process of finalising.
