Vol. 484 No. 3

Written Answers. - Meeting with FÁS Board.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

70 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has met the board of FÁS in the context of her statement on the national employment service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22046/97]

As the Deputy will be aware, I am currently reviewing the organisation and composition of a range of State agencies which fall within my area of responsibility with a view to increasing effectiveness and improving the services on offer to the business community and the general public.

Within this broad exercise I am looking at a variety of options in relation to existing employment services in Ireland and would hope to be in a position in the not too distant future to announce developments in this area. I have consulted and will continue to consult interested parties in relation to any changes which might come about.

I met the board of FÁS last week, on 4 December, when a wide range of issues concerning the activities of FÁS in the context of our dynamic economy and rapidly changing labour market were discussed.
