Ceist:

124 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the current rate of forest premia per acre for planting trees; and the plans, if any, he has to increase this rate. [22298/97]

New increased rates of grants and premiums under the CAP afforestation programme were announced on 30 November, 1997. In general rates were increased by 13.5 per cent. The increased grant rates will apply retrospectively from 15 October 1997, while the increase for premiums will apply to premiums due from January 1998.

The following tables outlines the new rates, in detail.

(1) There will be no further planting under this category. The premium rates will apply to land already under the category.
In addition a supplement of £10/hectare will be payable on sites greater than six hectares and £20/hectare on sites greater than 12 hectares in respect of sites planted by farmers on enclosed land.
