Vol. 486 No. 2

Written Answers. - Personal Injuries Litigation.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

106 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence if he has supplied the Incorporated Law Society with details of ambulance chasing behaviour by particular firms of solicitors as alleged by him on radio and television and in the print media. [2326/98]

When I met with representatives of the Incorporated Law Society on 20 January 1998, I outlined my concerns at what I consider to be unacceptable behaviour on the part of solicitors touting for personal injuries litigation. I intend to stay in contact with the society on this issue.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

107 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence if he is reviewing the legislation on personal injuries and public liability; the steps, if any, he has taken to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2327/98]

Legislation on the whole area of compensation for personal injuries is under scrutiny at present by an interdepartmental working group representing the Departments of Defence, Finance, Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Enterprise, Trade and Employment as well as the Office of the Attorney General.
