Ceist:

131 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the State boards under her responsibility which have a member under the age of 30; the nominator of this member to the board; and the measures, if any, she proposes to increase the number of young people on these boards. [4368/98]

Appointments to State boards are made on the basis of the qualifications and suitability of the individuals concerned. Records are not maintained in respect of the ages of such individuals.

132 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Defence the State boards under his responsibility which have a member under the age of 30; the nominator of this member to the board; and the measures, if any, he proposes to increase the number of young people on these boards. [4369/98]

None of the members of the State boards under the aegis of the Department is under the age of 30. The main factors which govern the selection of persons to serve as members of boards are their relevant experience and general suitability to fill the particular appointment and the question of age does not arise.
