Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Sports Funding.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

300 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the position regarding an application by Skerries rugby club for grant assistance under the sports and recreational grant scheme. [4550/98]

My Department has no record of a current application for funding from Skerries rugby club under the sports capital programme.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

301 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when funds will be made available from the proceeds of the national lottery for an organisation (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [4706/98]

An application from the committee was received in my Department in April 1997 and will be considered when grant allocations are being made for the coming year in accordance with the criteria for awarding such grants as set out in the terms and conditions of the sports capital programme.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

302 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his Department will hold seminars on a regional basis to discuss the distribution of the outstanding £16.8 million with the various organisations to whom the money has been allocated. [4763/98]

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

303 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will introduce a cut off date for organisations who have been allocated grants totalling £16.8 million where they fail to reach certain requirements. [4764/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 302 and 303 together.

At the end of 1997 overall capital commitments to projects under the sports capital programme amounted to £15.7 million. This money will be paid in 1998 and subsequent years on satisfactory completion of each of the individual projects, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the programme. My Department will be in contact with each of the clubs and organisations involved to ascertain arrangements now in place for project work and completion dates and outline the documentation and information required for payment of the grants to be made.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

304 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the next deadline for receipt of grant applications from organisations who wish to apply for assistance under the capital grants programme. [4765/98]

Once the assessment and allocation of funding to existing applications under the sports capital programme has been completed, my Department will undertake a comprehensive review of the programme. The review will be completed later this year and when it is, details of the revised schemes will be widely publicised. Applications from clubs and organisations for funding under the new schemes will then be invited and deadlines for receipt for applications set and publicised.
