Vol. 488 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring — the plans, if any, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform has to regulate or prevent public demonstrations on the main streets in Dublin and whether a section of Phoenix Park could be used instead; (2) Deputy Durkan — the response to Parliamentary Question No. 177 on 24 February 1998 about the assessment of income tax of a person in County Kildare; (3) Deputy McGennis — the up to date position regarding the provision of independent counsel to represent rape victims at criminal trials; the legislative or other changes necessary to implement this measure; and the probable time scale; (4) Deputy Stanton — the need to introduce guidelines which prohibit marketing or sponsorship initiatives involving schools where the promotions are linked to parents making purchases of the sponsors' goods, products or services; (5) Deputy McManus — the reasons the State did not contest a legal case taken by a Dublin consultant challenging part of the findings of the Finlay Tribunal of Inquiry, especially in the light of assurances given to Positive Action and the resolution passed by Dáil Éireann on 20 March 1997 and in particular why the State did not seek to have the tribunal reconvened to consider the matters at issue; (6) Deputy John Gormley — the latest Environmental Protection Agency's figures for air pollution in Dublin, and the need to tackle the problem of VOC's and PM 10's in Dublin's air.

The matters raised by Deputies Durkan, McManus, Ring and Stanton have been selected for discussion.
