Ceist:

217 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has sanctioned the raising of a £2.5 million loan by Leitrim County Council for the construction of new council offices; if a commitment was given to the Leitrim County Manager that financial assistance will be provided for the project; if so, the level of financial assistance that will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Sanction to the raising of a loan of £2.5 million to fund the construction of new council offices issued to Leitrim County Council on 25 November 1997. While no specific commitment to provide funding for the project was given, the council was advised that, in the context of its resource base, all its expenditure needs, including loan charges on the loan, would be taken into account in determining future allocations from the Equalisation Fund.
