Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Drug Treatment Services.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

185 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children the services for drug addicts in Dublin 2, 6 and 8; and his plans, if any, for the future development of these services. [6270/98]

As the Deputy is aware the provision of drug treatment services in Dublin is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance. In considering locations for drug treatment centres, the board has regard to the extent of drug misuse in a particular area, the existing drug treatment services and the availability of suitable premises.

A range of addiction services are provided at the following locations in Dublin 2, 6, and 8: Trinity Court, Pearse Street, Dolphin's House, Fatima Mansions, Rialto, and Merchants Quay. A mobile unit also provides treatment services in the Dublin 8 area. Additional services are planned in 1998 to be located in Cork St. , south inner city, location to be finalised, and Inchicore.
