Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - County Mayo Tourism.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

255 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of visitors to the Céide Fields centre in Ballycastle, County Mayo for each of the years from 1994-1997. [6332/98]

The visitor numbers to the Céide Fields Centre in Ballycastle, County Mayo for the years 1994-97 were as follows: 56,627 in 1994, 45,890 in 1995, 41,365 in 1996 and 40,156 in 1997.

When a new site is opened, it can attract an initial high level of interest. In the case of the Céide Fields, numbers appear to be stabilising at around 40,000 per annum. This figure places Céide Fields as the second busiest heritage site managed by my Department in the West.
