Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Hearing Impairment Claims.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

69 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Defence the law firms, if any, that represented the State in Army deafness cases. [6404/98]

Only the Chief State Solicitor and local state solicitors have to date represented the State in Army deafness cases.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

70 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Defence if law firms, that represented the State in Army deafness cases, also represented individuals who made claims against the State for Army deafness; and, if so, the number and names of these firms. [6405/98]

The Chief State Solicitor and local state solicitors act for my Department in the conduct of civil legal claims. Local state solicitors are precluded by their contract of employment from acting against the State. My Department is not aware of any state solicitors also representing plaintiffs against the State in cases alleging hearing impairment.
