Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Projects.

John Gormley

Ceist:

337 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will make a statement on the future existence of the non-biting midge if the Glen of the Downs motorway goes ahead and destroys its habitat. [7480/98]

The improvement works to the N11 through the Glen of the Downs will see the road upgraded to be a dual carriageway. Following representations made by the then National Parks and Wildlife Service (now Dúchas — the Heritage Service of my Department) the road scheme was significantly modified. As a result, the habitat of the non-biting midge will not be adversely affected by the road scheme.
