Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Arts Funding.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

335 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, she has to make Rattoo Round Tower, Ballyduff, Tralee, County Kerry, accessible to the public; if she will provide an information plaque to facilitate the numerous visitors that frequent the monument; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7286/98]

I am pleased to say that works are planned to enable the public to access Ratoo Round Tower. These works, which will include the provision of wooden stairs and landings, are being scheduled for commencement in 1999. An information plaque is being prepared at present and will be erected on site during the coming tourist season.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

336 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands when persons (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for a Gaeltacht road grant. [7287/98]

Since this question, which specifically relates to matters regarding a Gaeltacht scheme, is being put to me in English, I am answering it in English even though I have stated that it is my policy to answer all such representations and parliamentary questions in the Irish language.

My Department has received an application under Scéim na mBóithre Áise (Accommodation Roads Scheme) 1998 from the individuals referred to by the Deputy and this application is being evaluated in the context of the other 203 applications which have been received from applicants in the Mayo Gaeltacht and in the context of the limited amount of funding available to me under the scheme. A decision on the applications to be funded will be made as soon as possible.
