Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

179 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person who sought an appointment in late February 1998 for a mammogram at the Limerick Regional Hospital cannot be facilitated until June 1998; if he has satisfied himself in relation to the delays; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8195/98]

The provision of medical treatment in this instance is the responsibility of the Mid-Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

Ceist:

180 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Health and Children if a neurologist will be appointed to the Regional Hospital, Limerick to serve the needs of sufferers from Parkinson's disease and other neurological illness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8196/98]

I understand from the Mid-Western Health Board that the regional hospital in Limerick has a long established link with Cork University Hospital for the provision of neurological services, including treatment for Parkinson's disease, on a sessional basis. The health board has not identified a requirement for the appointment of a consultant neurologist in ongoing contacts with my Department on its overall service development needs and priorities.
