229 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to reduce the amount of Garda overtime; the amount and the proportion the reduction will represent; and the way in which this will impact on services. [7903/98]
The total budgetary allocation to the Garda Síochána Vote for 1998 is £492.521 million net, an increase of 3 per cent over that for 1997. The objective is to provide an adequate policing service within this budget. The Garda authorities and my Department will be monitoring expenditure under all headings, including overtime, on an ongoing basis to ensure that this objective is achieved.
