99 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of asylum seekers deported, granted refugee status and granted humanitarian leave to remain pursuant to the administrative procedures notified to the UNHCR on 10 December 1997. [10905/98]
Nil. As the Deputy will be aware, additional staff have been appointed to my Department to deal with the backlog of asylum applications. However there has been some delay in giving full effect to the procedures referred to by the Deputy as it was necessary to implement a full and comprehensive training programme for these new members. Following this training, carried out by UNHCR and personnel from my Department, these staff are now operating in accordance with the procedures in question and I am satisfied that decisions will be made on a number of cases in the near future.
