Vol. 490 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

John Gormley

Ceist:

102 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has sought an explanation from the Garda authorities in relation to the circumstances that led to the arrest, procuring of a confession and subsequent proof of innocence of a person (details supplied). [10938/98]

I have been informed by the Garda Commissioner that a senior officer is pursuing inquiries with a view to establishing the circumstances which resulted in the person in question being charged. I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me, therefore, to comment further on the issue raised beyond saying that the specific case referred to by the Deputy is the subject of continuing investigation.
