43 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will accede to a request from the Lough Conn Water Quality Committee for a grant to continue essential monitoring of water improvements in Lough Conn. [12387/98]
I am aware of the valuable work being undertaken by Lough Conn Water Quality Committee. The Central Fisheries Board and North Western Regional Fisheries Board which are represented on the committee are contributing directly to water quality monitoring in Lough Conn through the provision of advice, manpower and other resources.
The Department is exploring with the committee and the fisheries boards the scope for further support for the committee's programme of work, including the possibility of developing an eligible proposal under the tourism angling measure.
