Ceist:

70 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will expedite a hip replacement operation for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who has been on the waiting list for a considerable period of time. [12447/98]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons in County Mayo in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.

71 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim will be called for a knee replacement operation. [12448/98]

The provision of medical treatment in this case is a matter for the hospital concerned. I have asked the chief executive officer of the hospital to investigate the position in relation to this matter and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
