Vol. 492 No. 1

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

180 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for the 1998 student summer job scheme. [13338/98]

The purpose of the student summer jobs scheme is to provide income support during the summer holiday period for the less well-off third level students who are disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance and are unable to obtain summer work.

In order to qualify for participation in the scheme, students must satisfy a means test which is broadly similar to that currently applying to applicants for unemployment assistance. The person concerned does not qualify as his weekly means exceed the qualifying limit.

182 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for the 1998 student summer job scheme. [13340/98]

The purpose of the students summer jobs scheme is to provide income support during the summer holidays for the less well-off third level students who are disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance and are unable to obtain summer work. Students who have completed their course of study are not eligible to participate in the scheme as such students are eligible to apply for unemployment assistance.

The person concerned has completed a course of study and, accordingly, ineligible to apply for unemployment assistance.
