118 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will sanction the grant for voluntary and community groups to a group (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the fact that it is a community owned group promoting local development and is part of the village enhancement plan that will be implemented over the next five years to counteract the effects of depopulation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The group mentioned by the Deputy in his question submitted an application for funding under the 1998 scheme of grants for voluntary organisations, which is administered by my Department. As at 1 June 1998, a total of 2,507 applications had been received under this and the other once-off grant schemes, including 227 in the north-west region where this group is based. As the Deputy will appreciate it will take time to process all these applications. My Department will contact the group as soon as a decision has been made regarding its application.
