Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers Scheme.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

253 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if he will amend the 1994 regulations to qualify for the disabled drivers tax concession; and, if so, when he will be in a position to announce changes. [16330/98]

It is unclear which category of person the Deputy wishes to see qualify for the disabled driver tax concession. There are many demands that other medical categories, who presently do not qualify for the existing generous disabled drivers concession, should be entitled to tax free cars and petrol. It is very improbable that access to this scheme can be given to all of those categories currently seeking tax free cars and petrol. The tax concessions to disabled drivers, which are already extremely costly, are kept under regular review.
