Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Office of Wards of Court.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

358 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform whether there is adequate staff in the Office of Wards of Court; if his attention has been drawn to the delays in having matters listed before the Register of Wards of Court which can run to upwards of a year; the proposals, if any, he has to deal with the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15665/98]

I am aware that there are delays between the filing of statements of facts in the Office of Wards of Court and their listing before the registrar.

In the context the registrar has been in contact with my Department and has met senior officials recently with a view to addressing the problem in the Office of Wards of Court. My Department is currently considering the question of resources which might be necessary in this regard and will pursue the matter as soon as possible with the Department of Finance.
