Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Crop Losses.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

118 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the farmers in north Mayo, who applied for compensation under the 1997 weather related crop losses scheme, will be given monetary aid for the fodder losses they incurred. [16652/98]

While fodder losses did not fall within the primary scope of the scheme of assistance for weather related crop losses — 1997 — nevertheless I have asked my officials to reassess those applications where significant hardship has been demonstrated. The review is currently under way and will be completed as soon as additional information required is available.

Ceist:

119 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of farmers nationwide paid under the 1997 weather related crop losses scheme on a county by county basis; the number of farmers awaiting payment; and the length of time it will take for all payments to issue. [16653/98]

Details of payments made under the scheme of assistance for weather related crop losses (1997) were given in reply to Parliamentary

Question No. 131 of 25 June 1998. Payments in respect of 236 applications will be made by end July. A review is currently being undertaken of a further 150 applications in respect of fodder crop losses with a view to determining if some assistance can be provided in these cases. The review will be completed as soon as additional information required is provided.
