Vol. 493 No. 5

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

213 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application for naturalisation for a person (details supplied). [16735/98]

The application from the person referred to was received in March 1998 and is under consideration in my Department. The various procedures involved in processing an application for a certificate of naturalisation, coupled with the high number of applications being received, is resulting in applications taking up to 12 months or more to complete.

The first stage of the administrative process, which involves checking the information in the application and accompanying documentation, will be completed shortly. However, it is unlikely that a decision on the application will be made before next year. As soon as full consideration has been given to this case, I will advise the applicant and the Deputy on my decision.
