221 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of claims for personal injuries made against his Department between the years 1990 and 1997; the number of these claims in respect of which compensation was paid; and the total cash amount for each of these years. [18191/98]
There were eight claims made against the Department from 1990 to 1997; six of these cases have been settled. The total amount paid to successful claimants for each of these years is listed in the following table. Total legal costs in the cases settled amounted to £55,056.46.
