261 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of claims for personal injuries made against his Department between 1990 and 1997; the number of these claims in respect of which compensation was paid; and the total amount paid for each of these years. [18197/98]
Details of claims in respect of community and comprehensive schools are currently being compiled in my Department in respect of the years in question and will be forwarded to the Deputy. The number of claims for personal injuries made against my Department in relation to other areas for the period 1990 to 1997 inclusive was 138. Compensation was paid in respect of 45 of the 138 claims in question.
The total amounts paid in respect of these claims in each of the years in question were as follows.
