Seán Ryan

Ceist:

67 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 137 of 22 April 1998, the Chief State Solicitor has had a further meeting with the Law Society regarding the Government's commitment to introduce legislation regarding advertising by solicitors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18091/98]

Ceist:

80 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the extent of co-operation between his Department and the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform regarding proposed legislation on advertising by solicitors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18092/98]

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

99 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Defence the progress, if any, to date in his discussions with the Law Society; the date of his last meeting with them; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9063/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 67, 80 and 99 together.

The introduction of such legislation, which has been approved by the Government, is a matter for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The Solicitor's (Amendment) Bill, 1998 was published on 2 June and is currently awaiting the second stage in the Seanad.

The Chief State Solicitor met with the Incorporated Law Society earlier this year and a full and frank exchange of views took place. It was agreed to have a further meeting when requested by the Society.
