Vol. 494 No. 6

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

125 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if students attending a course (details supplied) in the United Kingdom are eligible for grant aid from his Department. [19034/98]

In 1996 the third level student support schemes were extended, subject to certain exceptions, to include full-time undergraduate courses of not less than two years duration pursued in a university or third-level institution which is maintained or assisted by recurrent grants from public funds in another EU member state. One of the exceptions is courses in colleges of further and higher education other than courses which are at Higher National Diploma level or higher.

My Department has made inquiries in this case and I understand that the course referred to by the Deputy is not at Higher National Diploma level or higher and as such, does not come within the scope of the third level student support schemes.
