Vol. 494 No. 6

Written Answers. - Area-Based Partnerships.

Ceist:

126 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide representation from his Department to attend meetings of a local task force (details supplied) in order that his Department is aware of problems facing education in this area. [19045/98]

The Department of Education and Science has assigned a representative to the education subcommittee of each area-based partnership under the Operational Programme 1994-99.

I advised the Fatima task force in April of the name of my Department's representative in the case of the Canal Communities Partnership which includes the Fatima Mansions area in its remit. I have also indicated to the task force that, while the particular departmental representative will not be available to it as a permanent member, he will be available to it for advice and consultation when its members are discussing educational matters. It is felt that this arrangement is adequate to keep the Department of Education and Science fully informed of the educational needs of the area.
