Ceist:385 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Finance the GDP per capita in an area comprising the suggested 13 counties for retention of Objective 1 status and the counties of the mid-west region. [21612/98]

The most recent CSO publication concerning per-capita GDP for regional authority areas pertains to 1995. This shows that the per-capita GDP (along with its expression as a percentage of the EU average) for the regional authority areas of the west, Border and midlands is as follows — West: £6,943 (64.4 per cent); Border: £7,666 (71.1 per cent); Midlands: £7,125 (66.1 per cent). For the same year, the per-capita GDP for the Midwest regional authority area is £9,387 (87 per cent).
