Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

391 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will approve the application for persons (details supplied) in Dublin 6W for a special grant, in view of the circumstances and the special case which applies. [21572/98]

An application for a grant from the proceeds of the national lottery was received by my Department from the organisation referred to.

The procedures in place for processing an application for a national lottery grant is that the application is forwarded to the relevant services division within the Department for their assessment, evaluation and recommendation. The services division noted that the grant was sought to organise and fund (a) a teacher training course, (b) ISL tuition, (c) a support group for parents and (d) the development of Montessori courses. The services division considers the application to be strictly an education project and not appropriate to this Department. Consequently the provision of a national lottery grant is not recommended in this case.

My Department will be advising the applicant to apply for funding for this project to the Department of Education and Science, which is considered to be the appropriate Department.
