Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

506 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can draw down a grant, approved approximately five years ago by his Department rather than the local authority, for the provision of a group water scheme in view of the fact that the work has only just been completed. [21587/98]

An application for this group water scheme was received in my Department on 8 February 1991. Grants had not been approved by my Department in respect of this scheme at the time of devolution of the group water scheme programme to local authorities in January 1997. Prioritisation of schemes and allocation of grants is now a matter for Mayo County Council within the block grant allocations made by my Department.

Ceist:

507 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has received an application for a further extension to a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo; and, if so, when funding will be sanctioned. [21589/98]

Work has recently commenced on a major sewerage scheme at Claremorris which includes an extension to Rooskey townland on the Mayfield road. A proposal for a further extension of this scheme out the Balla road from Newtown to Gurteen-Cloonboy Crossroads is currently with my Department. Mayo County Council has been requested to provide additional information on the proposal and this is awaited in my Department.
