Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

713 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the efforts made by a person (details supplied) in County Galway to get sufficient funding to allow her to attend a special residential school for blind children in Northern Ireland; if his Department will provide the subvention necessary to allow the Western Health Board to cover the costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21432/98]

I am aware of the case to which the Deputy refers.

While responsibility for residential placements is a matter for the relevant health authority, my Department is in consultation with the Department of Health and Children on this matter in an effort to ensure that the needs of the child are met.
