Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Ceist:

125 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her views on the concerns raised in correspondence (details supplied) regarding obtaining car insurance for a vintage car; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21460/98]

Our Department has contacted the Irish Insurance Federation in relation to the matter. The Irish Insurance Federation has confirmed that under a special scheme operated by the insurance company concerned it is possible to avail of "discounted" rates in respect of insurance on a vintage car where the proposer owns another car for everyday use. I understand that, as the person seeking this cover does not own a car for everyday use, he does not qualify for the discounted rate under the special scheme. Nevertheless, I understand that the insurance company concerned has offered standard motor insurance rates to the proposer in respect of his vintage car.
