Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drugs Strategy.

Michael Ferris

Ceist:

292 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that an official of the South-Eastern Health Board has refused to brief a public meeting of South Tipperary County Council on the board's drug strategy; his Department's policy in this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22787/98]

As the Deputy will be aware, the detailed implementation of a drug misuse strategy at a regional level is a matter for the respective health boards who have statutory responsibility in this area. It would not be appropriate for my Department to become involved in executive matters of the type raised by the Deputy. It is my view that the matter would be best dealt with by the local bodies themselves working out a satisfactory relationship.
