Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Training.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

47 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Defence the specialist courses attended by Irish naval personnel at British Royal Navy colleges; the total cost of sending personnel on these courses; if this practice will continue in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22964/98]

To date in 1998 two members of the Naval Service have attended specialist courses at the British Royal Navy colleges at a total cost of £26,000. One of these was a course in system engineering management and the other was related to maintenance of protective clothing. These are specialist courses not available in Ireland and personnel may continue to attend such specialist courses as are necessary to fulfil the operational and training requirements of the Naval Service.
