299 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda strength at the Newcastle West Division, County Limerick, will be improved by providing replacement gardaí for those who have retired in the past two years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that the current staffing level, at 30 November 1998, of 41 members — all ranks — in the Newcastle West Garda District will be kept under review and when additional resources next become available, the needs of Newcastle West will be fully considered in the overall context of the needs of all other districts throughout the country.
