Ceist:67 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the approved language and information technology courses for which tax relief is available. [25806/98]
Written Answers - Tax Reliefs.
Section 476 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, formerly section 8 of the Finance Act, 1997, provides for tax relief for fees paid in respect of certain approved courses in information technology and certain foreign languages.
I would draw the Deputy's attention to the fact that, in order for the tuition fee to be eligible for tax relief the course provider must be approved as an approved course provider under section 476 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997 at the time of issue of the certificate of competence.
Information on the scheme, which was commenced on 31 March 1998, is available from FÁS or from tax offices. Applications for approval of a course under the scheme can be obtained by applying to FÁS 27—33 Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 4. Specific courses which have been approved as at 27 November 1998 are listed as follows:
