Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Specific Learning Disabilities.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

112 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to meet the concerns of a person (details supplied) who has two dyslexic children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25425/98]

I have addressed the overall policy framework in relation to special arrangements for candidates with a specific learning difficulty in my response to a question raised on 17 November last by the Deputy on behalf of the same party. Applications for 1999 special arrangements on the grounds of a specific learning difficulty are considered individually on the basis of evidence submitted, including psychological reports. Candidates who are not satisfied with the arrangements proposed by the Department have access to the independent special arrangements appeals committee.
