Vol. 497 No. 7

Written Answers - Trade Union Recognition.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

29 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if the high level group on trade union recognition has been reconvened; and, if so, when it will be in a position to make recommendations to workers and employers. [26122/98]

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

56 Mr. Gilmore asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the latest position regarding discussions in the high level group on trade union recognition particularly in view of the findings of the report of the inquiry into the industrial dispute at Dublin Airport; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25998/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 29 and 56 together.

Following my discussions with ICTU and IBEC, the high level group on trade union recognition has been reconvened. The group's remit now includes three matters — individual worker representation, collective representation and industrial disputes of special importance. I have asked the group to attempt to identify an agreed response to those matters.

The Deputy will appreciate that the group will give whatever time it requires to progress its complex and difficult task.
