138 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amount allocated in the Estimates, the amount spent and the percentage of GNP this represents for each of the past 20 years in relation to overseas development aid. [26955/98]
Details of official development assistance — ODA — in the period 1978-98 are set out in the following table. Columns A and B set out respectively expenditure in financial terms and as a percentage of GNP.
Overall ODA includes items other than voted moneys, for example, the share imputed to Ireland of expenditure through the EU budget. In relation to that part of ODA which is funded through the Vote for international co-operation, columns C and D of the table set out respectively the amounts allocated and actually spent.
