Vol. 498 No. 2

Written Answers. - Vietnamese Immigrants.

Ceist:

139 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the criteria that will be used in the allocation of the recently announced visas to members of the Vietnamese community under the family reunification scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27039/98]

Applications from the Vietnamese community, under the recently announced further and final round of family reunification, will be considered in the following order of priority: (i) spouses and unmarried children under 18 of Vietnamese already in Ireland; (ii) parents, adult unmarried children and unmarried brothers and sisters of Vietnamese already in Ireland and (iii) on a case by case basis, relatives outside the above categories who, for humanitarian reasons, are deemed to require admission to Ireland in order to join family members.

The Refugee Agency, in consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs, is currently putting in place the administrative arrangements to implement the Government decision.
