The information requested by the Deputy with regard to the 1999 determinations and the comparable 1998 figure is shown on the following table.
Funding is allocated to cover both pay and non-pay expenditure, and is based on the approved level of 1998 expenditure. Additional funding in respect of pay awards, service developments, waiting list initiative, new units, breast screening, cardiovascular strategy, accident and emergency, cancer strategy, hepatitis C, haemovigilance, nurse education/training, dental services, clinicians in management, health and safety, medical indemnity and inflation forms part of the 1999 determinations.
The specific allocation of base funding between specialities and/or services is a matter for the board of management to decide, within the confines of an agreed service plan. Details as to the projected activity, in the various specialities are furnished to the Department as an integral part of the hospitals' service plan. To date, plans have been received from the following hospitals:–
