Figures compiled from the International Road Federation's world road statistics report for the period 1991 to 1995 indicate that Ireland's average expenditure on roads as a percentage of GDP, average of 1.19 per cent over the period 1991-95, is higher than countries such as France, Germany and the UK and similar to Spain and Portugal.
