Vol. 499 No. 2

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Review.

David Stanton

Ceist:

72 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 185, 186 and 187 of 1 October 1998, the review board set up in October 1997 by the Chief of Staff in order to conduct a special study of the Reserve Defence Force has issued its final report; if so, if he will publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2374/99]

The Defence Forces Review Implementation Plan (1996-1998), which was approved by Government in March, 1996, provides for a special study of the reserve to be undertaken during the lifetime of the plan. As part of the examination process the Chief of Staff established a military board to conduct a study of the reserve. While the board submitted an interim report the board has not yet submitted its final report.

Reports of military boards convened by the Chief of Staff from time to time to examine and report on various matters are not published. Accordingly, it is not proposed to publish the final report of the military board convened to conduct the study of the reserve.
