Vol. 499 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Boundaries.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

115 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the proposal to extend the Cavan urban district boundary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2363/99]

In accordance with the provisions of Part V of the Local Government Act, 1991, which was brought into operation in 1996, it is open at any time to an individual local authority to adopt a proposal to alter its boundary for administrative purposes. Such a proposal must specify the proposed boundary which can be in accordance with the 1994 electoral revisions or otherwise. The issues must be fully considered at local level by all authorities concerned before an application for an extension is sent to the Minister. I have not received an application under Part V of the 1991 Act from Cavan UDC.
